Conference Venue

Pilsen is a beautiful historical city whose origins date back to the 13th century. On 6 May 1945, near the end of World War II, it was liberated from the Nazis by the 16th Armored Division of General Patton's 3rd Army. An overview of the rich Pilsen's history can be found on its Wikipedia page. The city features many sightseeing attractions.

The conference will take place in the historical conference center Secese of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, and catering will be provided by the famous brewery restaurant Na Spilce.

Part of the conference program will be optional tours of the Pilsner Urquell brewery museum, historical undergrounds of Pilsen, and St. Bartholomeus Cathedral.

Travel Information

Conference registration will open at 2 pm in the lobby of the hotel Angelo Pilsen on Sunday June 24, 2012. Dinner will be provided for those who do not arrive too late (the restaurant stops serving dinner at 9 pm).

Using a Train from Prague

This is a recommended way of transportation as the Angelo Hotel is located within walking distance (approx. 400 m) from the Pilsen Main Railway Station. Please see the map below. The trains leave from the Prague Main Railway Station (Praha Hlavni Nadrazi) every hour and the trip to Pilsen Main Railway Station takes less than 2 hours. Several departure times are listed here for your convenience: 9:07 am (arrival to Pilsen 10:49 am), 10:07 (arrival 11:49), 11:07 (arrival 12:49), 12:07 (arrival 13:49), 13:07 (arrival 14:49), 14:07 (arrival 15:49), 15:07 (arrival 16:49), 16:07 (arrival 17:49), 17:07 (arrival 18:49), 18:07 (arrival 19:49), 19:07 (arrival 20:49), 20:07 (arrival 21:49).

For Mathematicians and Engineers

The above departure times can be written as T_0 + N * dT where T_0 = 9:07 am, dt = 1 hour 0 minutes, and N is a nonnegative integer such that 0 <= N <= 11.

Getting to Praha Hlavni Nadrazi

When coming through the Prague Airport, use the Airport Express shuttle service which takes you there directly. The bus departs every 30 minutes or so and the departure stand is located close to Terminal 2. All public transportation buses are somewhat similar, so look for a green display on the bus showing "AE". Other buses have a number on the display, do not use those. In the AE bus, you will be asked to pay 60 Czech Crowns (CZK) which is approx. 2.50 EUR. They do not accept Euros, please exchange some currency at the airport before using the bus.

Purchasing Train Ticket

When coming from other parts of the city, the Main Railway Station is a stop of the red line "C" of Prague subway. Train tickets can be purchased in the lobby of the railway station for approx. 151 CZK, or directly in the train (higher fees apply).

A limited number of rooms has been reserved in the Angelo Pilsen hotel across the street from the conference venue, at a special conference price of 50 EUR single room and 65 EUR two bed room (in both cases including breakfast). Please mention that you belong to the ESCO 2012 conference while making a reservation. Alternatively, accommodation is possible in the Marriott Courtyard Pilsen and many other hotels in Pilsen.
